If you happen to be in Milan on holiday, for shopping, carried by work responsibilities for some important meeting or for any other reason, after taking a city tour, after admiring the sightseeing from Duomo Cathedral, after you found your way through the crowded Piazza Duomo, wandering on Corso Vittorio Emanuele, admiring the windows of the stylish shops on Corso Montelapoleone and Via della Spiga , getting the idea of what’s new in terms of fashion, after entering every single shop in Rinascente and Excelsior, having fulfilled your duty by concluding a business deal, you need a cozy place to taste some more of Italy right here in the heart of the crowded city.
“Wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy.” (B. Franklin)
I’ve discovered the perfect place for this recently, by chance, in one of our usual weekly “girls’ night out”, when after a hectic day, spent surrounded by papers, jumping from one meeting to another like a ball on a tennis court, the first thought that comes to your mind is “A drink! A drink! My kingdom for a drink “- I know, Richard III said” a horse “but … I think in our case, a drink will do. Although we have a few favorite places where we normally go, that evening we needed a change. So one of my friends suggested “a place that she knew”
In the imposing Piazza Duomo, in the shadow of the great cathedral of Milan, like a temptation, there is a Wine Store, where the wine is raised to the rank of gentleman and so that everyone understands it, the talented people from the world of Italian Marketing named the place “SignorVino”. And that was a darn good choice!
As I stepped in I was impressed by this Milanese house of Bacchus, where they know how to make you feel good.
An old wooden wine press greets you at the entrance indicating your way in case you do not know where to go.
The bar at the entrance is to be considered during summer when you can taste the goodies of this place, on the terrace, right behind the cathedral. Otherwise I suggest you to follow your instinct and the car wheel against the stairs to the heart of this place, where you will be welcomed in a warm place and will be taken on a enogastronomic journey through the various regions of Italy.
It is some sort of a Wonderland with about 1,000 Italian wine labels from different italian regions and typical regional dishes that highlight the passion and experience of Italy in wine industry. A special place dedicated to the enogastronomic culture where the protagonist is Mr. Wine.
Piemonte, Valle d’Aosta, Lombardy, Trentino Alto Adige, Liguria, Friulia Venezia Giulia
Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Lazio, Umbria, Marche, Abruzzo,
Molise, Basilicata, Campania, Sardegna, Basilicata, Puglia
The entire Italy in a single place. It’s up to you where you want to go
It’s your choice
We choose to go in Alto Adige, having a Gewürztraminer, cellar Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro a pale yellow wine with golden hues. Fragrant, smelling of red rose, with flavors of pineapple and tropical fruits, creamy and rich on the palate.
While expecting the waiter’s “regional recommendations” to appease our hunger, someone was studying the labels on the bottles surrounding us
The menu is organized on “regional recommendations” for an easy pairing to the wine chosen. If during the dinner we prefered the same wine, with the food, we couldn’t make it…it was too hard to make a choice, hence the long journey After the appetizers we treated ourselves with delicious dishes from different regions.
“I crostoni di Signorvino” - Crostoni with chicken liver pâté, artichoke and eggplant dip
“Filetto di Chianina toscana in “Tartare” ai 5 pizzichi”-Tartare of Chianina beef with five spices (Tuscany)
Mozzarella di bufala campana with tomato sauce and toasted bread (Campania)
“Pappa al pomodoro” -Stracciatella on warm tomato sauce and crostini (Tuscany)
“Carpaccio di tonno” -Tuna Carpaccio (Sicily)
“Nell’Aia” - Chicken Salad
“Formaggi del Piemonte” – Cheese plate -Robiola, Zola, Bra, Ubriaco Castelmagno, Caprino ( Piemonte) with fruit
The spicy orange marmalade horseradish sauce was perfect with the cheese emphasizing its flavor.
Pear and Chocolate Strudel
And more wine :). Mr. Wine kept us company on our enogastronomic journey, symbol of culinary delights and fun. It was a great evening and I want to thank my friend , Ramune, for capturing it in lovely pics. :)
If I stirred your curiosity and you happen to be in Milan, you need to say “hello” to Mr. Wine and discover the taste of Italy right behind the great cathedral.
And, who knows, we might even meet since I intend to go back as I keep thinking of all the goodies I still have to try on that menu .
Cheers!
Frumoase cuvintele, frumoase și pozele
Felicitări!
Thanks TWO
